WHAT IS GHOSTWRITING?

Why you should hire a Ghostwriter?

Ghostwriting—this dimension of the writing world, may sound quite mysterious to many.

The first question which might come to your mind is,

What exactly is ghostwriting?

And why might you want to work with a ghostwriter?

So here are some of our thoughts which might clear your concept of ghostwriting.

What is Ghostwriting?

Ghostwriting is the process of writing for a project that will be credited to someone else. The creator of this kind of writing assignment is called a ghostwriter. They may complete the entire project or act as a “partial” ghostwriter who works with the publicly named author — but either way, the ghostwriter’s own name will not appear in the byline.

Unlike most writers, a ghostwriter’s aim is to draw as little attention to their contributions as possible. They adapt their writing skills to fit each client’s needs and focus on carrying out the client’s vision as that client sees fit. They also advise on content and style issues if and when needed.

So if you’ve been struggling to write a book or anything else involving prose, a ghostwriter might be able to help you get it done!

Reasons to Hire a Ghostwriter

This may come up as a surprise , but it’s a common practice. When someone wants to create a story of one’s life experiences, or a biography, a ghost writer may be hired to write it. There are many similar jobs such as writing ads or a business copy, or supplying new or rewritten material for personal or professional use. The ghost is hired primarily as a professional freelance writer, in order to produce the thoughts of the person (client) in a systematic way, so that the written document looks professional.

A paid professional freelance writer is often the only source to which to turn to get sparkling, well written website copy or other paid professional writing work. And a ghost is hired to bring this about, either as an on staff writer or as a freelance writer who is paid specifically for the job at hand.

Ghost writers are also hired to write books for people. In such cases, the author of the book is the person who hires the ghost writer, and not the ghost, unless the book author wants to share some of the credit with the ghostwriter. In this case, the ghost may be listed as a coauthor or as the “editor” of the book, and generally this is listed somewhere in the acknowledgments page.

How to hire a ghostwriter for a low fee?

The ghostwriting fee depends mainly on the length and the technicalities required for writing. This directly refers to the creativity involved and the hours put in, in the work assignment by the ghostwriter. But the credit obviously goes to the author.

So, one trick to lower the fee is— if you offer to share the credits of the writing work with the ghost. After all, it’s about the ghost’s efforts put in the write up! This will allow the ghost to take a lower fee if credit is shared with the book author.

Do you need to pay advance to the ghostwriter?

It is up to the book author and the writer to determine whether or not the ghost should take all his/her money as advance pay for a “work for hire” job, or if the book writer wants to share credit with the book author or to take a percentage of the book’s gross profits over time as payment for the work.

On a Concluding Note

So basically, Ghost writers are writers for hire who work for you, but don’t take any of the credit for the work produced. The client takes all the credit for the original work produced by the ghost writer for a fee.The ghost, who is usually paid in advance of completing the job, gets the money as a “work for hire” job and assumes none of the credit for the ghostwriting work.
