Take notes as you research your topic
⭐ First, read some popular blogs on the topic you have chosen. Remember the topic of your first blog should be clear and concise from day one. If you find you cannot write a blog better than what you are reading then don’t bother. You want to retain your audience. You don’t want them to start reading your blog and then fly off.
This does not mean that you have to be an expert at the topic you are writing on. But your presentation of the blog should be such that it creates value in the mind of the reader.
⭐ As you conduct your research and start reading blogs for reference, keep a notebook handy. Better still is to note down everything in a google doc. Let it be a reference doc only. In Google Docs, you can edit and bookmark text. It makes it easier than a notebook and you can work it across multiple devices and locations.
Make a draft of your blog
⭐You can use different media to draft your blog post. You can use the traditional method of writing in a notebook. Or you can use it to write it in a word document. But it is best to write in a google document. That way you don’t lose your work if your computer shuts down, the changes are saved automatically and many google tools are available to help you in your writing process.
⭐ Install Grammarly chrome extension. It is a great boon and helps you in having mistake-free content. Readers are put off by content ridden with grammatical errors. It is a great turn-off.
⭐ If you are confident in your writing then you can start writing directly on your website dashboard.
How to hook your readers in
Something well begun is half done. This holds true for a great blog post also. How will you reel the audience in?
⭐ By posing a question that addresses the pain point of your target audience. Do this right at the beginning. This will entice the readers to read on to find a solution to their problem.
⭐ Maintain a casual style and tone in your writing. Write as if you are talking to your readers 1:1, or in a conversation with them. This will make the readers feel that you can relate to their problems and will help them in finding a solution.
Make your blog easy to read and glance through
Your reader will rarely read your blog word for word. Most probably they will glance hurriedly through it in an effort to glean the maximum amount of information in the minimum amount of time.
That is why your blogs should be easy to scan or read. And how are you going to do that?
✨Divide your post into subheadings. This will help to keep your blog on track and make it easy to understand.
✨Keep your paragraphs short, with a maximum length of 2 to 3 sentences. Some paragraphs can be of 1 sentence length only. This helps to catch the eye.
✨Keep the sentences short. Long winding sentences have been the death of many blogs.
✨Don’t list your points in a long sentence. Use bullet points to break them up. Bullet points make the message to be conveyed more precise and clear.
Make the blog interesting with images
In these times of online content writing, visual representation of your subject matter is of prime importance.
- An interesting and relevant image helps in turning a boring text into a much more interesting one.
- When the text is long an image when inserted provides a welcome break and visual relief.
- Sometimes an image explains and puts your point across much more efficiently.
- Add a featured image to your post. It is one tactic that keeps your reader glued to your content and not click away to a much more appealing site. Free sites like Pixabay, Unsplash, or Pexels have a great library of thousands of images. You can also use Canva if you want a customized graphic or image.
Increase your traffic with great SEO
You write great content and insert attractive images, but all in vain. You are getting nil traffic. Nada!
What’s happening?
You need to improve your SEO.
⭐Use an SEO plugin. You can use a free one.
⭐Add a focus keyword relevant to your topic.
⭐To the title add a keyword, SEO, and a meta description.
⭐Make your blog post more than 300 words long minimum. However, it is best to have a word count of more than 1000.
⭐Optimize your images. They should be properly named and resized. They should also have proper alt tags and categories.
Have a call to action
Have a compelling call to action which convinces the readers to take the action on the site.
Some examples of good CTA’s are:
- Sign up for your newsletter.
- Share your blog on social media.
