Today, Instagram is a trending option when it comes to social media platforms for sharing pictures and videos. But with new features and options adding up now and then, it gets quite puzzling to differentiate and decide over the video options.
Videos can be shared on Instagram as a Post, Story, Reel, or IGTV video.
So, how to decide where to publish your video?
Each video has a different purpose, and we need to be clear with this before opting for either of the four options of Instagram.
- POST
It is the main and the most basic option. A video when shared as a post shows in your followers’ main feeds throughout. If someone visits your profile, it will be useful in engaging with them.
Length of the video as a Post: 1 minute long
Suggested options for a Post:
- Promotional videos
- Testimonial videos
- Product-launch videos
- Interviews
- STORY
It is a short clip and stays on your profile for a day-long. You can post as many of these as you want in sequence. They disappear after 24 hours. Saving it as Story Highlight can make this content stay permanently on your profile.
Video when put as a Story helps in driving engagement with your current followers; with features like emojis and polls.
Length of the video as a Story: 10 seconds each
Suggested options for a Story:
- Announcing a promo or give away
- Introducing a new product
- Breaking up a long video (60 seconds into 10 continuous stories)
- REEL
It is a type of short-form video feature, aping TikTok video platform. It can have single or multiple video clips edited together. You can add text, captions, music, and visual effects to a reel.
Reels help in connecting and engaging with a new audience.
Length of the video as a Reel: 30 seconds long
Suggested options for a Reel video:
- Entertaining video
- Educational video
- Combination of both
- IGTV
This feature allows users to share long-form content on Instagram. It can be compared to a Youtube video. Like reels, IGTV helps in reaching out to new viewers and engaging with them.
Length of the video as an IGTV option: 15 minutes to 60 minutes on the desktop
Suggested options for an IGTV video:
- For long videos ; longer than 3 minutes
- Educational videos
- Product/service demonstrations
